STACEY CARSWELL

Stacey Carswell Running Guelph

Welcome!

My name is Stacey!

I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Personal Trainer based in Guelph, Ontario. I help elite and everyday athletes who are feeling hesitant about their current training to tap into their limitless mental and physical power so they can perform at a high level – now and in the future.

Like most healthcare professionals, it was my own personal experience that led me on a path to discovering the limitless capacity of athleticism.

I was born with a rare condition that made me more susceptible to injury – and for as long as I can remember I have been intrigued by all things health and movement.

As a young athlete, the people in my life, while well-intentioned, tried to impose limitations on many aspects of my life.

I wasn’t allowed to participate in contact sports.

My doctor told me I couldn’t run.

My parents told me I wasn’t allowed to do gymnastics (although with my height, I likely wouldn’t have lasted long)

While it would have been easy to fall prey to their fears and start to believe I was limited in my capacity or any less capable than my friends … I always had a deep sense that I could figure out a way to do the things I wanted to do, without injuring my body.

Instead of worrying about my health, their concerns simply fuelled my strong (admittedly, slightly rebellious) desire to learn more about the human body, try new training methods and figure out what I needed to do to push the limits of what was supposed to be possible for me –

AND to do it in a sustainable way –

a way that allowed me to perform at my highest level without sacrificing my future health.

When I made it into my teenage years…

I hired my own personal trainer and found my way into the gym.

I very quickly realized it was a place where no one and nothing could limit me but myself.

I could set a goal of doing a pullup and know exactly what was required of myself to achieve the outcome I desired.

I could aim to run a sub-25min 5K, create a step by step plan and watch myself move predictably towards my goal.

And if I hit a roadblock, I always knew I could find a way through.

Increased fatigue? I’d play with my nutrition

Slower recovery – I’d alter my sleep routines and training de-loads.

Tight hip? I could integrate a more specific mobility program into my warms ups and recovery days

No matter the obstacle, there were unlimited opportunities to create a new plan that fit with my goal and my body’s individual needs. There was always a way.

It was in the gym that I discovered my true resilience, and realized my limitless potential.

I took this passion to the classroom

and ended up learning everything I could about the human body and training athletes.

I completed my diploma as a Physiotherapy Assistant/Occupational Therapy Assistant, a Post Graduate Certificate Program in Workplace Wellness and Health Promotion, a Diploma in Fitness and Health Promotion, became a ISSA Strength and Conditioning Specialist, canfitpro Certified Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor Specialist, trained in JOGA, FST, FMS Level 1 and 2 and core training.  I continue to investigate and educate as the strength, conditioning and health fields are ever evolving.

While my passion was unwavering, it took me a little while to find the right setting for my career – one where I could fully deliver my knowledge and skills to help other athletes discover their own limitless potential.

I worked in a rehab settings for almost a decade  helping injured athletes with the acute phases of their rehab – but there was always a part of me that knew these athletes needed something more.

I had more to offer and I knew I needed to find a way to deliver that information to athletes – so, in 2019 I started my own business.

My own experience has been empowering for me and I love sharing that with others and guiding athletes to discover their own limitless potential so that they can perform their best on and off the court, now and 5 years from now.

While my own athletic career never landed me on the parallel bars, I now enjoy running, cycling and all other forms of strength and conditioning (including the occasional semi-competitive spikeball game).

When I am not in the gym or training clients I enjoy listening to Huberman Lab on Spotify, dog snuggles and trying out new recipes from food bloggers such as Pinch of Yum!!
